About Us

Orsay House Bed & Breakfast in Portnahaven, on the picturesque Isle of Islay, the ‘Queen of the Hebrides’, is our family home that we share with our little rescue dog, Tizzy.

Although we love pets, unfortunately as a rescue dog,Tizzy does have some issues with other dogs and so to prevent any problems we cannot accommodate guests pets.

As we do have a dog, Orsay House may not be suitable for guests with certain allergies.

Located on Queen Street, with a well-maintained garden stretching down to the rocks (with some amazing rockpools) and sea, Orsay House Bed & Breakfast  Accommodation offers uninterrupted, spectacular Atlantic sea views from the decked area in front of the house. where guests can sit and watch the changing tides, the antics of the local seal population and some amazing sunsets.

Islay makes whisky but its not just whisky that makes Islay.

Arrival and Departure

To allow us to clean and prepare your room we usually welcome guests between 4pm and 9pm on the day of your arrival, occasionally we can accommodate slightly earlier check ins but please check with us if you need to check in earlier.

Ferry timetables sometimes mean that you will arrive after 9pm, as long as we are aware of your estimated time of arrival we can accommodate this.

Getting around Islay

A regular bus service serving both Port Ellen and Port Askaig as well as Bowmore stops just a few steps from Orsay House. This enables you to visit 6 of the islands distilleries without driving, but please note that the bus service does not operate on Sundays. We can help arrange taxis to get you around the island, enabling you to visit our many distilleries without worrying about who will drive!

The Pub (An Tigh Seinnse)

The pub has now reopened under new owners and you are able to enjoy local beers and whiskies as well as freshly prepared food in a traditional pub setting.
Whilst the pub is only three doors down the road, generally the only noise and disturbance will be the sound of the seals singing or the waves crashing.
