Just two miles from Orsay House is a fantastic small cove called Currie Sands. If you didn't know it was there you would never chance upon it. The only clue is a sign in a well kept front garden saying car park, and a small green gate saying Currie Sands, dogs welcome. after you pass through the gate there is a bench where you can sit and take in the view before descending down the steep slope (aided by a rope handrail) to the most fantastic cove with white sand.
If you walk over the beach and up the other side of the cove you will reach Islays experimental wave power generator, called LIMPET, this was a project between an electricity company and the university of Strathclyde. From here you can look back over Portnahaven and Orsay and McKenzie Islands as well as Frenchmans Rocks.
